Case Studies: National Corvette Museum

National Corvette Museum

Since 1953 the Corvette has been America's Sports Car. The National Corvette Museum (NCM) was established as a 501(c)-3 not-for-profit foundation with a mission of celebrating the invention of the Corvette and preserving its past, present and future. The museum wanted a group communication solution that would allow it to extend its Web presence, as well as a means to send out NCM-related news in a timely manner.

"LISTSERV® is our way of announcing new products in our online store and providing new fundraising campaigns and Corvette news that our community is interested in," said Glenn Darwin, Information Technology Manager for the National Corvette Museum. "We wanted to target individual groups with announcements and news relating to that group. We needed the ability to create our own mailing lists and not be hampered by list restrictions or have other advertising included by a third party-service."

"With L-Soft I have experienced excellent sales and service support. All questions or problems are taken care of in a very short time. Overall L-Soft has been very reliable and dependable."

The NCM's largest mailing list contains more than 21,000 subscriptions and continues to grow daily. This list is used for weekly outgoing messages promoting the NCM and Corvette. Another list is targeted at museum members specifically. This list is used to announce member-only specials and announcements dealing with membership. During the 2003 National Corvette Caravan, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Corvette, the museum set up mailing lists for each regional traveling caravan whose ultimate destination was the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. More than 6,000 Corvette owners started their engines from all over the United States and worldwide. The museum also provides free mailing lists to Corvette clubs, registries, and specialty groups. The requirement for this service is to be a major supporter of the NCM.

"Keeping the information flowing has been a big plus," Glenn Darwin said. "Online sales and phone orders to our gift shop have increased. The Caravan mailing lists provided up-to-date information and discussion capabilities to the participants. Providing mailing lists to the clubs is a great way to say thanks for all the support and volunteer work they provide."

Currently, the NCM list database features 48 lists, with a monthly average of 1,600 posts and 80,000 recipients. LSMTP®, L-Soft's high-performance smtp server, will be used to send selected mail-merge messages pulled from the NCM's main membership database. The museum also plans to personalize each email and make it easier for the customer to sign off for increased compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act.

"With L-Soft I have experienced excellent sales and service support. All questions or problems are taken care of in a very short time. Overall L-Soft has been very reliable and dependable," Glenn Darwin said.
