L-Soft and Bell Canada to Discuss Customer Relations Strategy at NCDM

Case Study Illustrates Successful E-mail Marketing Practices

Landover, MD (July 30, 2001) – L-Soft, developers of the original LISTSERV® software, announced today that Vice President of Marketing Gabriela Linares and CGI Senior Consultant for Bell Canada Bill Attia will give a presentation at the National Center for Database Marketing (NCDM) Summer 2001 event in Rosemont, IL. The session, Step by Step: Implementing an E-mail Marketing Program that Enhances Customer Relationships, discusses how Bell Canada employed L-Soft solutions to facilitate a marketing effort designed to strengthen the telecom's rapport with its customer base of 12.6 million. NCDM attendees are invited to the session, held at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 31 in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

The presentation will detail the integration of Bell Canada's customer database with L-Soft's platform of the LISTSERV® e-mail list manager and LSMTP® – L-Soft's lightning-fast e-mail delivery application. Used in conjunction, LISTSERV and LSMTP perform "mail-merging," a function necessary for the creation of personalized large-scale e-mail marketing campaigns. Bell Canada chose L-Soft's LISTSERV high-performance option (HPO) and LSMTP Unlimited, each designed to handle large-volume lists. The company currently sends 300,000 e-mails per month to its customers.

Since 1998, Bell Canada has used the mail-merge function to send highly personalized e-mail reminders containing links to online billing statements. Customers are also linked to a host of special deals and incentives that Bell Canada offers. "We have received a lot of positive feedback from the service," said Attia, whose firm was responsible for finding a comprehensive e-mail solution for Bell Canada. "Customers are actively looking for their reminders every month."

As customers continue to embrace the e-mail reminders, Bell Canada has found new ways to harness the marketing opportunities that the technology provides. A sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Team, Bell Canada used the reminders to link customers to a page on its Web site that included results from the 2000 Games in Sydney. "This way, subscribers could stay informed on the home team's progress," Attia said. A case study detailing many of Bell Canada's e-mail marketing efforts is available here:

Attia is very pleased with L-Soft's technology lineup. "One of the greatest things about LISTSERV and LSMTP is the configuration process. The language is so straightforward it is hard to go wrong. This saves valuable resource time and really makes L-Soft's solutions the natural choice for us."

Recently, L-Soft acquired tracking technology that will enhance LISTSERV's e-mail marketing capabilities. Later this year LISTSERV customers will be able to measure the success of their campaigns and learn more about their customers' interests when the integration of technologies is complete.
