Bethesda, MD (April 20, 2004) – LM_NET, the online voice for the school library community, won the first category of L-Soft's LISTSERV Choice Awards, the Educational List Award. With more than 16,000 subscribers from 65 countries, LM_NET's LISTSERV list connects school librarians worldwide so they can exchange ideas, solve problems, discuss new publications and up-coming conferences, ask for assistance or information, and link schools through their library media centers. Through the list, members have also been able to overcome a sense of professional isolation, a common problem among librarians.
"We do not believe we are overstating things when we boast that LM_NET is the most successful educational e-mail list in the world, maybe the most successful e-mail list in the world, period," wrote Co-Moderators Mike Eisenberg and Peter Milbury. "We are certain that LM_NET would match up to any e-mail list based on the list's number of subscribers, message volume, sense of community, scope and depth of topics covered, clout and member netiquette. However, LM_NET is more than just a mailing list, it is a virtual community of people dedicated to improving education through school library and information work."
In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, L-Soft has launched the LISTSERV Choice Awards. The contest invites all LISTSERV e-mail list enthusiasts to participate throughout 2004 in the award program for the most interesting, creative, innovative or exemplary usage of L-Soft software worldwide. The contest features seven different list categories: Educational, Philanthropic, Community, Announcement, Technical Innovation, Newsletter and E-Mail Marketing. The next category to be judged is the LISTSERV Newsletter Award with a submission deadline of April 27, 2004. This category recognizes excellence in electronic newsletters. All types of LISTSERV list-based newsletters are eligible. The newsletter with the highest standards, effectiveness, overall creativity and value will be presented the award.
