European Law Students' Association Honored for Outstanding Use of Email List Technology

Organization Wins Announcement Award in L-Soft's LISTSERV Choice Awards – the Only Global Recognition for Email List Excellence

Bethesda, MD (April 19, 2006) – The European Law Students' Association (ELSA) – the world's largest independent law students' association – has won the LISTSERV Announcement Award in this year's LISTSERV Choice Awards program, recognizing its use of email list technology in creating a unique network of people working together toward the same goals across geographical and cultural borders.

"We have a big network of 30,000 members, and we have a need to reach out to our network through efficient communication. LISTSERV mailing lists help us manage the massive communication our activity necessitates. By using LISTSERV, we are able to strategically reach out to our members, giving us a great basis for coordination and communication," says Josefin Björklund, President of ELSA International. She noted that before implementing LISTSERV in 2002, there was an information gap among ELSA's membership regarding events and opportunities occurring in other countries. Björklund added that through the email lists, activities are now properly described and promoted to targeted members, with positive results including enhanced cross-national participation in various programs and improved awareness among ELSA's officers and members.

Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, ELSA – which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year – operates primarily through its local groups, housed at more than 200 universities throughout 35 European countries. In addition to a general email list to which all members can subscribe, ELSA also has mailing lists dedicated to the activity and interest areas of its members – 14 email lists in total – in order to meet the diverse interests, activities and communication needs of the nearly 30,000 law students and recent graduates comprising its membership.

"ELSA demonstrates how announcement lists, which are a relatively simple application of email list technology, can bring excellent results when used in a strategic and well-thought-out manner for customized communication. I am pleased to present this LISTSERV Choice Award in honor of ELSA's work with LISTSERV announcement lists, uniting its tens of thousands of members across the European continent while also channeling interest-specific content to sub-groups of its constituency," said Eric Thomas, L-Soft Founder and CEO and inventor of LISTSERV®, the original email list management software.
